YouLeaP Flyer Level Students
YouLeaP Flyer Level
This program equips students with a basic understanding of leadership and is divided into four modules:
Module 01: Opening eyes
Effective leaders understand themselves and have the capacity to understand others. To understand others, people need a clear concept of their own identity, self-image and their role in the community. Leaders constantly assess their strengths and weaknesses and an understanding of this will inform a student's potential. Leadership relies on an ability to combine knowledge of self and others to advance both personal and group goals.
Module 02: Leadership defined
Leadership is a process. As the context changes, the roles and behaviour of leaders and followers must also change. In seeking to define leadership, students learn that respected leaders act ethically and responsibly. They develop an understanding that active leadership may involve personal and public risk and learn that there are many influences on an individual's leadership style.
Module 03: Becoming a leader
Students learn about some of the skills required to lead: vision, charisma, effective communication, goal setting, decision-making and mentoring. Practicing these skills within the context of social groups builds students' confidence and prepares them to assume a variety of leadership roles.
Module 04: Actions speak louder than words
Providing leadership through service further hones students' skills. It encourages them to define community and to independently assess community needs. It enables them to develop an understanding of stewardship and responsible ownership of their environment. It provides opportunities for them to experience responsible and active citizenship. Finally, it encourages students to develop altruistic patterns of behaviour by providing opportunities for voluntary service.
